Did anyone else go to the show at the mezzanine on wed night?
I had a Great time... The sound was off maybe they were too DRUNK to play or the sound system at Mezzanine sucked balls... everything sounded muffled and you could barely hear his voice.... and the drinks WAY OVER PRICED ...

Re: Wed night @ !!!(CHkCHK CHK)
Fri, December 9, 2005 - 10:25 AMI saw Out Hud open for The Rapture a few years ago. It was odd and not quite what I expected. I love them on record, but live it didn't quite work, at least when I saw them.

Re: Wed night @ !!!(CHkCHK CHK)
Fri, December 9, 2005 - 1:14 PMThat's "Me and Giuliani..."
I've seen Outhud opening for the Rapture at Great American Music Hall (in 2002 or 2003, I think), !!! (with LCD Soundsystem opening) at the Independent (this was one of my favorite nights of 2004), and Tussle opening for T. Raumschmiere at Bottom of the Hill (in 2003).
Agree with all comments above. -

Re: Wed night @ !!!(CHkCHK CHK)
Fri, December 9, 2005 - 1:42 PMI checked out !!! @ Mezzanine too. They have an explosive stage presence. And I do mean it -- they're crazy!
Actually was shocked to find out that the lead singer was completely sober during the gig. Spoke with the guitarist after the show, who told me that he's just full of energy like that.

Re: Tussle
Wed, December 14, 2005 - 4:31 PMTussle had finished recording their second full length album and they're doing a remix for one of the Liquid Liquid guys -- San Francisco is definitely on the discopunk map, kids!
Currently available from my blog Disco Ex Machina (www.discoex.com) is a radio show I did with Alexis G from Tussle in June 04: all disco and punk dub. Download nearly 90 minutes from the Slits, Viven Goldman, 400 blows, ESG and more.
Cheers,

Mikel Gius RIP
Wed, January 4, 2006 - 4:19 PMOn Dec 17, 2005 Anthony Mikel Gius was struck and killed by a car while riding his bike. Mike was the original drummer for !!!, helping start the band back in the fall of '96.
Mario writes,
"I met him when I was 8 after a mutual friend told me I 'had to meet the other guy in the neighborhood with more Kiss posters than you'. We quickly became best friends and went on to share the most significant times of our lives together...family vacations, puberty, crushes, loves, mixtapes, illicit activities, dancing, air guitar/drums, acutal guitar/drums, bands, US tours.
He was a straight prodigy on the drums; we played "tom sawyer" and "for whom the bell tolls" from start to finish the first day he got them...spoiled me for life. He had a unique, occasionally overwhelming style that coincided with the way he lived his life. No matter what you thought of him, he made bands, some ordinary, some not so, worth paying attention to.
We grew apart as our passions led us down different paths. I still love him like a brother and miss him terribly."

These are recordings with Mike that people can hear/obtain without exerting too much effort:

* The Yahmos - Undefeated LP (Gern Blandsten Records)
* The Popesmashers - This Is A Test 7" (Sunney Sindicut Records)
* !!! - s/t 7" (Sound Virus Records)
